Importance of Technology to Understand Internal Body Systems

Technology is critical in the understanding of internal body systems as it can be used to diagnose, monitor, or treat any diseases or conditions in the digestive, circulatory, and respiratory system. Various types of technology can be used to diagnose diseases earlier as these three systems are internal, which means that they are found inside your body. Technology has helped us to understand how these systems work in order to improve the quality of health care provided and have better treatment options. Based on all the knowledge that has already been gathered about our internal body systems, future medical technology will include things like replacement organs.

A spirometer is used to measure the vital capacity of the lungs and was invented in 1846. The sphygmomanometer was invented in 1881 and this device is used to measure blood pressure. These types of technology were fairly simple compared to the types of technology that are available today. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging method used to diagnose and treat many different medical conditions. Using powerful magnetic fields, radio frequency pulses, and a computer, thorough pictures of organs, soft tissues, bone, and many other internal body structures can be examined. MRI can be used to inspect blockages or enlargements of blood vessels, some types of heart problems, and diseases of the liver and small intestine just to name a few functions of the MRI.

Frederick Banting and Charles Best are two Canadians who discovered insulin. It is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose in the blood and it is needed for our bodies to function properly. Insulin is produced by cells in the pancreas. Without technology, they would not have known that our body needs insulin to function in the first place.

X-ray computed tomographies (CT) are x-ray tests that can produce images of certain parts of your body using x-rays and a computer. These images allow professionals to be able to look inside your body to see things like tumors, blood vessel abnormality, organs, and much more. CT scans can evaluate soft tissues such as abdominal organs and abnormalities that can not be seen on regular x-rays will show up on a CT scan.

Technology is very important to help us understand internal body systems. If technology was not available, surgery would be needed very often to see what is happening inside a person’s body when surgery may not have been required. With x-rays, MRI’s, and CT scans, very detailed images can be used to not only detect abnormalities, but to see how our body works. It provides us with knowledge to improve our health care. By understanding our body systems, things like molecular and gene-based diagnostics, which can detect diseases earlier, can be created. With technology like electrocardiographs, endoscopes, blood pressure reading devices, and so on, we can know what’s going on inside our bodies to help us understand internal body systems.

  1. Hello Carmina! Aren't medical technologies great? It enables medical professionals to meet the health care needs of all individuals by providing valuable information that assists in diagnosing diseases and abnormalities. Medical technology is used for preventative measures, diagnostic purposes, treatment, support, and administration. Further advances in medical technology will improve the different aspects of understanding the internal body systems.

  2. I love how you showed how medical technology can do so much for the world! Technology is so advanced that physicians are able to diagnose diseases at such an early stage. Since technology is so advanced, we are able to see our internal organs and bone structure by just electromagnetic radiation. I never knew that the technology today was because of the invention of a spirometer. Great blog entry, I really enjoyed reading it ;)

  3. Hey there

Technology is becoming a very big part of our generation and it's obvious that technology is becoming an important resource in the medical field. I liked how you portrayed that in your blog. I also liked how you showed how different technologies work and how they help people. I'm really interested in the spirometer because before my research i haven't heard of this and i didn't know that there was a test for evaluating the lungs. It's fascinating to learn how technology can help oneself.

  4. I agree technology plays a crucial role in the health care industry, imagine without it, how many surgeons would be needed in the world? Also the health care industry wouldn't be as successful as it is today, most like they would miss the smallest changes happening on the inside of the body. But because of the development in technology we now have MRI's which allow us to observe the internal body systems closely. Very nice post, I learned even more about technology used in the medical field.

  5. The idea about technology being used to replace organs in the future is a really interesting point. For scientists, the sky is the limit when it comes to medical technology. With newer technology we have been constantly learning about our bodys' but there still so much we can improve on and there is no doubt that in the future someone will develope technologies that are better then the MRI or spirometer and will give us an even better understanding of our internal systems.

  6. Hi, I found you blog very interesting. It never crossed my mind that one day we may be able to replace our own organs with artificial ones. Our organs are what keep us alive, and many health related deaths are due to the failure or important organs. If we had the power to replace organs, we would be able to save billions of lives. You also mentioned in your blog that technology is very important to help us understand our internal body systems, I agree with you one this because, technology allows us to diagnosis and learn more about our internal body systems without having to operate on a patient which can sometime be dangerous.

  7. I agree on how crucial technology is in understanding our internal body systems. With technology, there have been many lives that have been saved. I think the technology that gives images of the internal body system is what helps out the medical world the most. They are able to see the images and analyze much easier and faster. I liked how you showed images of the equipment while it was being used. It gave a better understanding as to how the technology works.

  8. I totally agree with you about the advantages there are to the new technology we have in the medical fields! It's very true because it does enable us to detect abnormalities and see how our bodies work. Also without the technology, we would have to go through so much more surgery to see the internal issues, when it's very preventable because of the technology today.

  9. I agree with you on the importance of technology. there are many advantages to this and not so many cons, so to me, its a win-win situation. The fact we are now able to understand our body organs and our body systems in a more quick and efficient way is the best part. TREMENDOUS blog, it helped me understand the different uses of machines and technology in a better way.
